Cloudkiwiland is based on an Aristophanian model … with possibilities for contemporary comedy. Bond introduces a metadramatic device which involved Bond (as leading actor) departing from his role (Bourgeois lecturer husband pommie immigrant) to present himself as director and commentator on the action…. The overall impression was disappointment. The commentary on current political issues - the Rainbow Warrior affair, ANZUS, etc - was by and large that of conventional prejudice. Satire needs to be more sharply focused than this. |
