Description Full title: Waiora: Te-u-kai-po (The Homeland). Brilliant young Maori playwright, Hone Kouka joins forces with highly experienced, innovative director, Murray Lynch to premiere Waiora at the Festival. A celebratory hangi on the beach reveals the fractured relationships of an East Coast family alienated by the move to an urban environment. Beneath the appearance of a happy whanau simmers the pain of racism, generational and cultural differences of New Zealand in the 50s and 60s.
