Ex-pat New Zealand trio, now resident in Australia. They met (with a fourth member, now departed) at John Bolton's school in Melbourne 1995. They won Best Comedy at the 1998 Melbourne Fringe Festival with this combo of work. 'The quadrophonic multitrack surround soundtrack, digitised high-res special effects, the warp factor 9 geodesic space travel, the sector-7 nebulous polymorphic alien life forms are all created using only our bodies, voices and through characteristation'. With 32 action-packed scenes in a hectic 25 minutes. City Voice. Nhoj Narrof is John Forman spelled backwards. Jesse, James and John are totally amazing guys. They can sing sweetly, grind out rap AND they mime like Marcel Marceau on amphetamines. They had the opening night audience in tears of helpless laughter and inspired them into tumultuous applause for their incredible energy and inventiveness. …. Brian the Musical spoofs every conceivable musical style as well as Hitchcock's masterpiece Psycho. Brian is a sweet boy with a big problem: his mother. All the more horrific for never being seen, she is a huge meat eater, crunching up dogs and cats in preparation for cannibalistic delicacies. To the tuneful accompaniment of his backing duo, he sweeps and scrubs before venturing out with a sack to find mum's furry dinner. He discovers love on his wanderings, first love which is celebrated with a memorable duet a la the last sugary musical you saw, and culminates with a raunchy rap number. Tom and Morris, ace detectives, are on his trail and so is their gay dad, tastefully festooned with a chiffon scarf. All ends happily with mum routedand dad happily cohabiting with Uncle Terry. Within the space of a minute the three J's are space cadets rocketing through adventures which are a hypoer combination of Star Trek, Alien and Star Wars with a couple fo hospital shows and Bionic Man thrown in for good measure. Their miming is incredible as they create hi-tech equipment, flying saucers, horrible bodily invasions and killer insects. The tender love the Scottish captain nurses in secret from his heavily-accented crew member of gracefully splayed limbs is evoked so movingly as to bring tears to the driest eye and howls of laughter from the hard at heart. |
