| Description |
The heroines are young married Englishwomen - pampered, pretty and flighty and each with a husband who takes her for granted. Before they were married, each of the old friends had a romance with the same dashing Frenchman, and he is about to reappear in their lives. The pivotal question is whether or not the premarital flings represent acts of infidelity to the husbands - a controversy in its time but, in retrospect, not a momentous issue. The fun of the play, such as it is, concerns the wives' deceit and jealousy as they prepare for their lover's return. |
