Description Uses the Pakeha system of justice as a metaphor for an entire machinery of cultural oppression. Set principally in the holding cells of the Auckland District Court and in Mt Eden prison….The action centres on the relationship between a representative group of gang members, young city Maoris, cut off from their tribal roots, and their de facto kaumatua, Tupu Tamarangi, an older man from a rural background, whose bitter experience in a land dispute has turned him into a violent enemy of the social order….
