| Description |
Renée's perspective is sympathetic to the workers fighting the Holland National government of the day. For this reason the political figures, patrolling police and compliant editors take on the two-dimensional character of 'the enemy' rather than enriching the dramatic conflict through genuine clashes of characters and debate. But RenŽe's consistent humanism and increasingly imaginative technical skill as a playwright ensure that the drama remains quite tautly balanced, without being maudlin. |
