Tall Man was created as part of Tales of the Underground, a showcase event for three writers who worked in three ex-gold mining towns (Cracow, Mt Perry and Mt Morgan) during 2011 as part of a playwriting residency looking at the social impact of mining in Central Queensland. Angela Betzien was a resident at Mt Morgan. Tales from the Underground toured regional Queensland in June 2012.
