| Description | Programme: 'dumb type' are a Japanese performance group from Kyoto whose performances are a direct evaluation of contemporary Japanese society. In their performance 'pH', the all-consuming shopper comes under scrutiny on a stage set with female dancers and mechanical toy pigs. Their performances utilise technological objects and the body is understood in sculptural terms.
Reviewer: "A series of seemingly random but nevertheless carefully co-ordinated, contrived and designed events that the audience must observe, co-ordinate, assimilate and categorise all at once. The piece is about technology and society...the ways and formats in which controls are asserted on society by technology." |
