| Description |
As a Greek play it is unusual; there is no single central character, no Oedipus or Othello, whose tragic fault and downfall are depicted. The tragedy is rather that of the Greek army who have conquered Troy, whose fault is overweening arrogance in victory, an arrogance which leads them to the desecration of temples and the violation of Troy's women and children. |
