Description From the mean streets of Mangere to the frozen tundra of Siberia, Wild Dogs Under My Skirt will shock, delight and seduce audiences. Wild dogs, cannibalism, corned beef, machetes. New Zealand, Samoa and Saudi Arabia – it’s all there under the skirt. Tusiata Avia is a New Zealand Samoan writer, performer and poet. Her one-woman performance, Wild Dogs Under My Skirt, expresses issues that anyone who has ever felt like a minority faces: the search for identity, unearthing the past: views drawn from both the dominant and minority culture, as well as observations made from the uneasy place of one that stands between the two. Tusiata Avia tackles the things in life we all find hard to face: violence, incest, abuse, racism, injustice and hypocrisy; while also exploring the joys of life: love, the universality of human experience, the richness and flexibility of people and cultures.
