Description Few of the world's orchestras can claim a musical history as long or as impressive as the Leipzig Gewandhaus. With its distinguished record of chief conductors the orchestra did much to create the reputation of Leipzig as the "music city" with its regular world premieres, including Beethoven's Triple Concerto in 1808, The Emperor Piano Concerto in 1881, Schubert's "Great C-Major" Symphony in 1839, Mendelssohn's Scottish Symphony in 1842 and Violin Concerto in E-Minor in 1845.
