Notes Mr Arnold Goodwin, one of the leading personalities in the theatrical activities of New Zealand. An Englishman by birth, Mr Goodwin came to this country over 30 years ago and at once took steps to encourage the art of the drama. He was one of the foundation members of the Auckland Little Theatre Society. Over a period of 30 years he has been one of the leacling actors of that society, and his services have been widely sought throughout the country for the judging of plays when the British Drama League held its elimination festivals. Mr Goodwin has had a long association with the Adult Education movement in the W.E.A. and has produced for this movement over a number of years. A director of the Applied Arts at the Elam School of Art, Mr Goodwin has fostered and advanced the theatrical work of the school. During his term of office in this capacity, he constructed, for the better education of his pupils, a small model stage, complete in every detail, and the young people learned to use this model as a means of assimilating Mr Goodwin’s instruction. It was this model which gave birth in the mind of Mr Goodwin to the Marionettes with which he toured the country last year. (Bay of Plenty Times, 17 June 1948, page 2).
