| Notes | The first building was situated on reclaimed land on the seaward side of Lambton Quay. Foundation stone laid 1844. The building was replaced in 1877, Architect: Thomas Turnbull. Demolished in 1933. Excessive borrowing (for the construction costs) forced the trustees to auction the building to pay debts. It went up for sale in 1888 and was bought by local entrepreneur & auctioneer Thomas Kennedy McDonald who used it for auction rooms, renaming it `The Exchange'. | |
