Abstract/Description On 16 September 2010, the Sydney Morning Herald published an article by Bryce Hallett entitled 'Feminine Touch for New Belvoir Season'. The article indirectly responded to Belvoir Street Theatre's launch the previous year, where the 2010 season's ten directors took to the stage. Then, one woman (Lee Lewis) stood among nine men. This moment became a lightning rod for examining women's career paths to the Australian mainstage, the effects of which were felt across the nation's metropolitan theatre communities. Flagship companies such as Melbourne Theatre Company and Sydney Theatre Company came under scrutiny for similar gender imbalances at the time, particularly in regard to the stark under-representation of female directors. For the 2011 Belvoir season, all eyes were on incoming Artistic Director, Ralph Myers, to see how the company would programmatically respond to criticisms stemming from the year before - criticisms that mobilised important conversations and investigations into women's creative leadership in Australian theatre, including the 'Women in Theatre' report commissioned by Australia Council for the Arts (now Creative Australia).
