| Abstract/Description |
On Tuesday evening was produced, for the second time at this Theatre, the " Merchant of Venice." We thought it an improvement upon the first representation. Mr. Lazar's Shylock we admired as much as ever; he was well received. Mr. Munyard had much improved as Antonio, he appeared to embody himself with the author, and complete success attended his exertions. Mr. Falchon threw more power into the duet, in the character of Lorenzo, and thereby improved his singing. Airs. Cameron was much more to our taste as Portia upon this than on the former occasion, and although she went through the part with energy, she avoided rant. Miss Winstanley was pleasing as Nerissa, but made herself ridiculous as the lawyer's clerk, she certainly- hail sunk the full bottomed powdered wig, but still adhered' to the gown and bands. |
