Title Esquire Theatre Bandbox Type
Abstract/Description Hoyts' new Esquire film theatre, Pitt Street, which opened yesterday, follows the present London and New-York fashion for "bandbox" theatres. The "Bandbox" theatre, small, intimate, and designed for distinction, has replaced the colossal film palace of the '30's. The Esquire, with its interior color scheme of cream, red, and gold, its new seating and carpeting, is a streamline, effective renovation of the old Cameo. Hoyts have chosen Noel Coward's Technicolor film "This Happy Breed," starring Robert Newton and Celia Johnson, as the first release under the Esquire's long-run policy.
