| Abstract/Description |
The central image is a panoramic view of East Melbourne and Fitzroy taken from the roof of St Patrick's Cathedral and looking north along Brunswick Street. In Albert Street from the corner of Gisborne Street, the East Melbourne Orderly Room can be seen, next the Victorian Academy of Arts's original building and then on the N. W. corner of Albert Street and what is now Morrison Place, is the Medical Society of Victoria's building. On the N E corner of Albert Street and Morrison Place is the 'New Church" or Swedenborgian church. In Victoria Street (south side) the Water Tank and Reserve and the rear of the Eye and Ear Hospital can be seen. On the north east corner of Victoria Parade and Fitzroy Streets is the Congregational Church (demolished). The Commercial Hotel (formerly the Belvedere Hotel) can be seen on the north west corner of Brunswick and Victoria Parade. The view is surrounded by 7 vignettes of business and commercial properties in Fitzroy, Collingwood and Clifton Hill. Lithographs. |
