The Theatre and ts People. By One of Them. |
| Abstract/Description |
Like other kinds of entertainment, pantomimes have their own traditions and their particular place among stage productions, and their mission at Christmastide is to typify the gaiety and mirth of the festive season. They are intended to make old people feel young, and young people, to laugh and be happy, and if they do these, things they have achieved their end entirely. They are in sense absurdities, not to be taken seriously, for who could regard with any solemnity a paradoxian performance wherein the principal boy is a girl and the chief woman a man. |
