| Abstract/Description |
THOSE who will attend to-morrow night's performance of "The Merchant of Venice" by the Sydney University Dramatic Society at the Great Hall, Sydney University, had better have their wits about them when the orchestra is about to play "God Save the King" for the entrance of the Governor, Lord Wakehurst, and Lady Wakehurst. Otherwise, there may be some hapless souls left seated when the National Anthem begins!
A member of the cast explained to me yesterday that, in order not to disturb the 15th century "atmosphere" of the play, Carl Gotsch has arranged the music of "God Save the King" in 15th century form, and some members of the audience may not recognise the otherwise-familiar tune. |
