| Abstract/Description |
Graeme Skinner is the author and curator of this online resource, launched in January 2012, in which he presents his ongoing research into the history of music and musicians in early colonial Australia. The resource focuses first on music in the years between first European colonisation of Australia in 1788, and c.1860, the end of the decade that began the first Australian gold rushes (1851) and that saw Australia first take its place in a newly globalised musical ecomomy. Gradually, it will expand to take in the centenary of colonisation in 1888, and the run up to Federation in 1901. By providing links to a mass of online content, Austral Harmony also functions as a virtual anthology of colonial Australian music and documentation. |
