Broken Hill Repertory |
Abstract/Description |
The Broken Hill Repertory Society started during the years of World War II, when theatre-loving citizens of Broken Hill banded together to raise funds for various war organisations. The infant society, called the Silver City Players staged various musicals, revues and theatrical shows and gathered many funds for the Red Cross, the Fighting Forces Comforts Fund, and the Prisoners of War. In 1944 the more enthusiastic players formed a permanent theatre group, which has been known ever since as the Broken Hill Repertory Society. The foundation members were Bert Johns, Pat Peoples and Vic Bindley, and the society was sponsored by the Zinc Corporation, with A. J. Keast as General Manager. |
