Notes Changed name from the Southern Comedy Players c. August 1966. Intended to employ full-time professional actors and directors, to present 6 - 8 plays a year in Dunedin's Playhouse, and to limit touring activities to Otago and Southland. (David Carnegie, 'The Southern Comedy Players, A Brief History', Landfall December 1980.) First production, Charley's Aunt, Nov 1957 - Jan 1958, 48 performances to 39 centres. The Southern Players became the Southern Theatre Trust around the beginning of 1969.
