Description A personal wager of 50 pounds has been made by Mr. Ashton that he can ride and drive three horses erect and barebacked between the Farriers' Arms, East Maitland, and the Northumberland West Maitland in 15 minutes, whilst alternating horses. The circus is to be re-opened on this night only. It is requested that residents keep the road closed. The only such performance to ever take place in New South Wales.

Further Information The performance was intercepted by police who had stationed themselves at the Victoria Bridge and took from him two of the three horses. Ashton was brought before court on a charge of dangerous riding but as he claimed to have no knowledge that he was breaking the law he was forced to pay a 20 shilling fine and costs.
