| Description |
The events are set in train when Paris, prince of Troy, is given the love of the world's most beautiful woman in return for his support of goddess Aphrodite in a contest with other goddesses. The problem is that the beautiful woman, Helen, is married to Menelaeus, king of Sparta. The flight of Paris and Helen to Troy sets off the 10-year Trojan War, as the forces of Menelaeus and his older brother, Agamemnon, prepare to besiege Paris's home town. Their shipboard departure from Greece is delayed by lack of fair winds. Eventually, a priest tells Agamemnon that he must sacrifice his older daughter. |
