| Description |
The scene is set in Folkstone, where young Kipps an orphan, is working as an apprentice draper. He and his fellow employees are heavily pressured by the Emporium owner Mr Shalford. Kipps also finds time to meet his childhood sweatheart Ann. The romance is soon to be interrupted by the inheritance of a fortune and Helen Walsingham, a very sophisticated lady. With the promise of fortune Kipps walks out on the enraged Mr Shalford and is drawn further under the spell of Helen.
