Description The dominant figure of the plot Is Sheridan Whiteside, a reputed portrait of the late Alexander Woollcott, a famous American literary and radio personality. The disrupting influence of this autocratic gentleman upon a peaceful household, wherein he is compelled, by reason of an injury suffered on his host's front doorstep, to spend several weeks as an enforced guest, gives the comedy its theme, and its development is designed to reveal a character that combines crashing egotism with a supreme disregard for the feelings of lesser mortals.
