… Mr. Reynolds was not equal to the delineation of the character [Romeo], but walked through the play, at times nearly rising to the situation, but oftener falling far short of the ideal. He failed to impress his individuality upon the character, and when the curtain fell one had the feeling that the part of Romeo might have been left out without being much missed. In the balcony scene Mr Reynolds was not sufficiently fervid, and spoke too loudly, while his memory failed him several times with the text. … |
