Description The true atmosphere of Maori life and legend, as nearly as it can be reproduced on the stage, will be the characteristic of an entertainment at the Grand Opera House next Friday. It has been arranged by the New Zealand Natives' Association, and is the first of the kind given by the association. Maoris only will enact the first part of the programme. In a setting representing such a scene as met the eye of Captain Cook when he first landed in New Zealand, a party of Natives will gather and will sing and dance a haka of welcome to the pakeha. Then the legend of Hinemoa, one of the prettiest stories in the poetical Maori folk-lore, will be recited by the Hon. A. T. Ngata, accompanied by a troupe of warriors. Othc items will follow.
