| Description |
The part taken by the Chinese in Monday's procession attracted a considerable share of attention, on account of its novelty and remarkable excellence, and the number and deportment of the processionists. The display was of a military character, organised to do honor to the Prince, in accordance with the usages of the Celestials when delighting to honor those in authority, and derives its origin from remote antiquity. There were four flag or standard bearers, sixteen musicians - circus performers, which are so favored by Chinese - and eight vocal performers. |
