| Description |
A 500-person, mostly Chinese audience enjoyed two plays presented by Chung Hwa Kung Hwei, a society of Chinese residents in Melbourne. The first play told a story of a pair of lovelorn cousins, Chinhenyu and Chuyuenyu and their victory over family resistance to their marriage. The second play told the rise to affluence of Soo Kuo-hwen, a young man who had lost his home in Manchuria during a Japanese invasion and who wins the hand of Yu-lan, only daughter of Hoo Chin-yin, a retired official. Chinese charities benefitted from the performance. |
