| Description |
The York Cycle of Mystery Plays is the most complete surviving collection of these mediaeval religious works. They deal in simple but effective terms with biblical subjects. The name 'mystery' comes from the fact that each scene was the responsibility of a craft guild, and its preparation was one of the guild's 'mysteries'. The full cycle was revived for the Festival of Britain in 1951, and this production of excerpts in New Zealand's first. |
