| Description |
Song, poetry and film come together as we commemorate the 100th anniversary of the start of the Battle of the Somme with special guest Simon Callow CBE. Songs of the Somme is a fascinating dramatic experience exploring the artistic legacy of the battle through the works of those who fought and died there. |

| Further Information |
We hear the words of Siegfried Sassoon, whose Somme diaries still bear mud on their pages, the poetry and songs of Ivor Gurney, some of which were written whilst he was on active service, and the songs of George Butterworth, killed at the Somme on 5 August 1916. We will also hear Roses of Picardy, Haydn Wood's wonderful song of 1916 that has become closely associated with the Battle of the Somme.
