In the 1970s and 1980s, The Adelaide Consort of Singers comprised five singers and a pianist. The singers, all professional soloists in their own right, were members of the former ABC Adelaide Singers for a number of years - Cathy Weber, Genty Stevens, Norman Hunter, Malcolm Potter and Max Pearce.
The Concert was established in 1971 in association with the Arts Council of South Australia and presented a program to school children called Introducing Opera. Together with its associate artist-accompanist David McSkimming, The Adelaide Consort has been presenting concerts with popular appeal in South Australian country and metropolitan centres. The program is made up of madrigals, folk songs, selections from rarely heard oratorios, excerpts from Gilbert and Sullivan operettas, light and grand opera, and pianoforte contributions from associate artist-accompanist David McSkimming (or on occasions David Stanhope or John Hall).
Introducing Opera is an educative and interesting program for primary school children - Years 1-5, The two operas are The Wise Shoemaker and Rita and Dita and the Pirate, by Australian composer Colin Brumby. |
