After Wyatt acquired the lease of the building in March 1838, to stop competition with his new Royal Victoria the building fell into disuse. Various attempts to use it for theatrical purposes fell through and it was used as a storehouse. On this night a drunken stablehand upset a candle in the hayloft and the building was burnt to the ground. |
