Description |
On Sunday 23 March 1902 during this run of Ben Hur, and 15 years after the theatre's completion, a fire broke out. The asbestos safety curtain failed to operate and the interior of Her Majesty's was destroyed.
The owner of Her Majesty's theatre, Cecily McQuade, arranged for the leading architect William Pitt junior to design a replacement after the fire, and the theatre re-opened on 1 August 1903. |
