Description John Rodgers' Inferno is a nightmarish 'aural cartography' of Dante's vision. Fourteen members of the ELISON ensemble take on the personalities of various denizens of hell in a complex and radical exploration of the physicality of performance. Flutes are inserted into oboes, live electronics and a percussionist on dog-whistles explores ultrasonic registers, a marauding violinist plays his neighbours' cellos directly with his own instrument while a conductor presides in the role of Lucifer himself. Further Information In 2000 one of Australia's most accomplished contemporary music ensembles will be resident at the Festival.
