| Notes |
Well-known English comedian, a cousin of George and William Rignold. The-family name, Rignall, was altered for stage purposes early in the last century, and a great many members have followed the theatrical profession. The son of Henry Hugo Rignold, an actor, Mr. Lionel Rignold, who was born in London, made his first appearance as a child at the old Pavilion Theatre, Mile End, and he played''grown-up ' parts from the age of 14 years. In 1883, after provincial experience he appeared at Her Majesty's Theatre, London as King Kosmos, in "A Trip to the Moon." Following some years of fun-making in melodrama, he appeared in comedy, farce, and musical comedy. Two or his most successful parts were Mr. Pineapple in "A Chinese Honeymoon," and Pink, in "What the Butler Saw." |
