DRAMA |
| Abstract/Description |
On Thursday night was played Rowe's Historical Tragedy of Jane Shore. The circumstances on which the Drama is founded occurred in the year 1483. The character of tho wily Gloucester was well depicted by Mr. Spencer, it is decidedly his best performance on these hoards. Mr. Cameron's Hastings was respectable, but he requires more animation. Mr. Gordon had much improved in his style in the character of Dumont ; he should be more calm and easy in his motions, and not extend his arms too wide when reciting. He mud o a sad bungle at the end of the second act, which was unpardonable it could only arise for want of attention to his part. Mr. Collins personated the character of Catesby with a singing tone, which is, disagreeable to the ear. Mr. Peat's Ratcliffe was nothing to boast of. Mr. 'Lano's Belmour was a sorry affair ; the character of Jane Shore was very properly trusted to Mrs. Cameron; she truly represented the description given of her by her lover Edward the Fourth, "she was the most holy woman in the world; because she never stirred out of the church, except when he sent for her."
