Description |
The people are happy - there's great music, fine views, rich wine, wild nighclubs, horse racing, good swimming, games, romance. And....a sense of disquiet in the air.
It's 1931 and central Europe confronts a new political force - persuasive idealism, handsome patriotism, and promises of an unfettered homeland. But there's not much bite to it out here in the Danube valley west of Vienna, with its sharp hills, quaint baroque villages, strains of sentimental Strauss waltzes and timeless beauty.
