| Description |
Sankai Juku is a controversial five man group, whose work is acclaimed both in Japan and internationally as a highly sophisticated form of contemporary theatre. Based on Butoh Dance, which owes much to the influence of traditional Noh and Kabuki theatre whilst at the same time rebelling against them, the group has crafted a unique order of aesthetic values. Sankai Juku's performances are erotic, shocking, mystical and compelling. Strong bodies, topped by bald heads, often with mask-like faces, present images of intense beauty and grace. |
