Description |
"Heaven is the ironic title of a frivolous work with a dark undertone. The setting is a kind of club cum theatre restaurant whose decorative theme is that of a refugee facility. The tables and seating are austere, all hard surfaces, plain benches and aluminium topped tables arranged in suites around three sides of the perimeter of the stage area. Behind them a chain wire fence. In front the maƮtre d' bench to the side of which a passage is way leading to an imaginary kitchen. As the audience arrive they are processed, they are allocated name stickers (arbitrarily chosen for them by the front of house staff); a quantity of tokens (Dinars, Heaven currency) with which to purchase menu items and a table. On the table is a telephone. When the show begins the waiters emerge business-like and after a short choreographed floor show they distribute the entree menu. The show follows the traditional three act structure of the classic western meal. Between each course there is a floor show. The audience/patrons choose a menu item then call on the telephone to order their particular theatrical dishes. Menu items include such delicacies as Head Job, Abuse (mild or spicy), The Revolutionary, Sacrificial Tree Ceremony, a Terrorist attack, The Kiss, Russian Roulette, Pie In the Face. The performer waiters serve the patrons at their table." |
