Description | Seemannslieder or Sailor Songs is a musical journey through a North European port town populated by women waiting for men and men longing for the sea, with the ever present promise and threat of the ocean. The result is a theatrical and musical odyssey of drunken darkness, hilarity, nonsense and sentimentality.
Christoph Marthaler creates theatre as a brilliant mosaic of musical composition in which the romantic sentimentality of folk ballads and schmaltzy pop songs gradually give way to beautifully rendered lieder. An evening of fragile souls, broken hopes, dreams and longing. |
