The sighting of a rare bird attracts attention to the remote fenland where Griffin and Jess eek out a living in their isolated cabin. A poetry competition with a big cash prize offers salvation. With their new lodger, ex-con, Bolla, they share baked beans and creme de menthe under an iconostasis of the Last Judgement. There are dark happenings out on the marsh and stirrings in the town where the residents have made a judgement of their own. |
