Description |
"All the characters in the show were famous minstrels. They include Billy Kersand, Billy Emmerson, Will Marion Cook, George Christie, Ernest Hogan & George Washington Dixon.
In a backstage setting, six famous minstrels from the past gather for a wake to lament the death of Bert Williams, the last and arguably the greatest black minstrel. During the night the minstrels tell the 150-year story of minstrelsy in song, dance and stories." |

Further Information |
The Jubilee Minstrels show began in 1976: it was created as a two-day historical documentary for the De Young Museum in San Francisco. All the songs, dances and even the costumes are authentic, and the cast members have become expert theatrical historians of the minstrel tradition. The cast list was not supplied in the Festival Programme.
