Description |
Sub-titled "A Portrait in Black", the play is presented as a large-scale musical, and examines the myth surrounding legendary Australian figures such as Ita Buttrose and Sir Robert Menzies. Set in 1988, Ita awaits the arrival of the Queen of England on the steps of the Opera House, where the bicentennial celebrations are to begin. However, the world is destroyed is the onslaught of nuclear war. Ita gathers the survivors (including Chips Rafferty, Manning Clark and Lucille Ball) and commences walking to Surfers Paradise to build the new world.
