Description |
A few years ago the author noticed two elderly men, one black and one white, sitting each day on a bench in New York's Central Park. "They'd be silent for long periods then they'd yell at each other. Then there would be silence, then more yelling, and yet they would come back every day". Gardner's imagination took over and the result was "I'm not Rappaport", the funny, sad, warm and whimsical winner of the 1986 Tony Award. It tells the story of two tattered knights errant who take on the authorities and fail with gallantry and dignity. |
