Description |
Set at the end of the First World War it tells the tale of a violin-playing soldier who is cruelly tricked into selling his soul to the devil as he returns home from battle. Usually played by an actor who mimes the notoriously tricky violin part, here the role of the soldier has been re-conceived by Anthony, in collaboration with Olivier Award-nominated director Lawrence Evans. In this fully staged production, merging drama, music, dance, film and physical theatre, Anthony leads members of the Academy of St Martin in the Fields from the violin whilst portraying the condemned tragic hero. |
